The dedication was done by Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray and Councilman Gary Hudes, who were joined by members of the Schwab family, school colleagues and Wisdom Lane students.
Schwab was an educator at MacArthur High School, Levittown Memorial Education Center and Wisdom Lane. During his 36 years of teaching, he certainly left his mark on both students and the district.
"Last summer, the Levittown community experienced a major loss with the passing of Craig Schwab," Murray said. "Levittown students and graduates owe a debt of gratitude to Craig Schwab. Aside from being a superior educator, he instilled a spirit of perseverance in our young people that has driven them to realize their fullest potential."
Schwab, a seventh-grade English teacher, will be remembered by friends, colleagues and students for his humor and the numerous stories he told that helped engage students in the learning process.
"His infectious humor and numerous stories helped to engage his students in the learning process," Hudes said. "Craig truly exemplified the true spirit of education."
Schwab's parents, Evelyn and Harold Schwab, along with his brothers Peter and Rick Ennis and brother-in-law Walker Flannery attended the dedication ceremony and accepted a commemorative sign presented by Murray and Hudes as a remembrance of this occasion. Others who were in attendance included Levittown School District Assistant Superintendent of Instruction Robert Davis, Wisdom Lane Principal Tim Chambers, Assistant Principal Greg MacArthur and Legislator Dennis Dunne.
"It is appropriate that we dedicate this traffic circle to Craig," said Murray. "Although he is gone, his spirit, his humor and his commitment to academic excellence will live on through his students and colleagues."
