The Levittown and Island Trees school budgets for the 2003-2004 school year were both passed by district residents on Tuesday. The budget vote and election, originally scheduled for May 20, was postponed by two weeks this year, due to mandated changes by the State Legislature.
* In Levittown residents passed the budget by more than a thousand votes, with 2,891 voting in favor and 1,775 voting in opposition to the $136,981,575 budget. In addition, residents approved the bond proposition tax levy increase with 2,260 residents voting yes and 1,439 voting no.
Board of Education trustees James Moran and Michael Moriarity, both incumbents to the board, ran uncontested for their seats. They received 2,740 and 2,562 votes respectively.
* In Island Trees, the budget for the 2003-2004 school year had a 71 percent passing rate with 720 residents voting yes and 290 residents against the budget.
There were two candidates running for the board of trustees in Island Trees - Charles Bambino and Kenneth Fazio - who were both uncontested. Bambino received 645 votes and Fazio received 617.
