The Dragons have a very tough four games left for the season; they already played two of them against Locust Valley and big time power Garden City. In the Locust Valley Falcons game, they were on their mark doing real well on face-offs with Billy Fama winning 8 of 12 and long pole middle Kevin Constantine going 4 for 7. On ground balls the Dragons were there. When they try and want to compete in loose ball situations they do well as a team. This resulted into a 14-5 league win. Scoring goals were Billy Bruckbauer with 6 goals, Junior Jimmy Davis netted 4, The Bionic Lung, Tommy Davis popping the net twice, Timmy Ramo and Billy Fama netted one each. Chipping in with good hustle were Luis Fernandez, Kevin Constantine, Kevin Meekins, and Chris Kelly.
The Garden City game was a big test for the Blue Dragons, hosting the Trojans at the second annual night game at home on Wednesday night which drew a huge crowd of support. The smell of upset was in the air when the Blue Dragons jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead early in the game. They were hustling on all loose ball situations, be it an opponents bad pass or ground balls. When they compete instead of look in these parts of the fundamental portion of the game of lacrosse, they can play anybody and proved it against this highly rated team, Garden City which is one of the top teams in the county. If Division's team, and I mean team, plays with confidence who knows what they can accomplish. Even though they lost by a score of 14-10, they didn't hang their heads, and did not quit. Scoring goals were Jimmy Davis who popped the net 4 times; fans don't forget that Garden City's defense is rated number one in goals against. Jimmy really had some fine goals, some of them were diving all around the defense and net with no fear from him. Also chipping in were Chris Kelly a goal and 2 assists, Kevin Constantine a goal and an assist, Billy Bruckbauer had one. Also popping the net for one each were Kevin Meekins, Billy Fama, James Davis and Timmy Ramo. For the many fans that night game was good to see, don't quit boys, be proud; it's part of the growing and learning pains.
In truth it was an important step as a team to gel and hopefully overcome these games in the future. This group does have a bright future to put the Division Blue Dragons on the map again. The season is truly just beginning with two more tough games against Bethpage and Syosset. Keep hustling Dragons, play as a team and remember groundballs, ground balls, you own them. Practice, play, win -- together.
