This week, the State Legislature mandated changes in the 2003 timetable for the annual district budget vote and trustee election. Due to these changes, the Levittown and Island Trees dates for upcoming budget hearings and meetings have been rescheduled.
The May 13 budget hearing has been canceled and moved to May 20.
Two trustees on the board of education are up for re-election this year: James Moran and Michael Moriarity, who are both running unopposed. Since there are no challengers as of now, there is no candidates forum planned. Due to the mandated changes, those interested in running for the school board have an extended deadline to submit nominating petitions of May 5 by 5 p.m.
The district-wide budget vote and election will now take place on June 3, after which the board will hold a special meeting to certify the vote.
The May 6 budget hearing and voter registration have both been canceled. Rescheduled dates are as follows: a budget hearing will take place on May 20 in the General Purpose Room at the Geneva N. Gallow School, beginning at 8 p.m. In addition, an evening voter registration will take place on that day from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Gallow School. Residents can also register to vote every day at the District Clerk's Office in the Gallow School. The last day to register to vote in the Island Trees School District is May 30.
The budget vote and trustee election will take place on June 3 from noon to 9 p.m. at the Michael F. Stokes School.
