The Girls' Varsity Track team turned in a great performance at the Oyster Bay Meet. High point earners were Angela Barea and Chelsea Marciano, who went one, two in both the hurdles and high jump. They also led the way for the girls 4 x 100 relay with Gina Brewer and Melanie Hallas. Other top performances were turned in by Jen D'Albenzio, Lauren O'Shea, Jessica Marciano, Tina Bove and Kate Beale.

It was a good week for the Lady Dawgs of Island Trees as they faced tough teams in Glen Cove and Lynbrook. In the bottom of the second, after a 2-out single by Jen Grella and a walk by Erin Dodge, senior Naji Barajas singled to right, scoring both runners for her first RBIs of the season. Going into the top of the 3rd with the score I.T. 3, Glen Cove 1, things got hectic. Glen Cove scored 3 runs to go ahead 4-3, but in the bottom of the 5th, the Dawgs would tie it and go back ahead with a clutch hit by senior Erin Dodge, bringing in both runs. Then, eighth-grader, Beth Hughes put the icing on the cake with her first homerun of the season, bringing in Lauren Poplawski, who had singled ahead of her. Final score Island Trees 7, Glen Cove 5. The winning pitcher was Lauren Poplawski. Next up was a long bus ride to Lynbrook. It was a very exciting game. Sophomore Michelle McGurk got her first varsity start and made the best of it, going 6 strong innings. With the score tied at 6, the game was stopped because of darkness. Some clutch hitting by Shannon McAdam, Jen Grella and Kate Schamberger was the key on offense. While on defense, Kate Schamberger was like Houdini on short stop, making play after play, every one better than the last. Stay tuned for the ending of a great game.

The JV Softball team has started off strong, winning 3 of its first 4 games. In fact, they are on a 2 game winning streak. After losing to a strong MacArthur team, the girls came back to defeat South Side and Lynbrook. Pitcher Colleen Cunningham has been very consistent with her control, keeping bases on balls to a minimum. After a shaky start, the infield of Meghan Carlson, Michelle Bearman, Keri Dodge, Elissa Smith and catcher Grace Vinberg have settled down to play excellent defense. Outfielders Stephanie Werling, Kelly Murphy, Dina Vecchione, Jen Macaro and Lauren Mason have made some key plays to support the defense. Most of the team is hitting, bunting and running well to establish an aggressive offense. The "Yodel" play of this week goes to Dina Vecchione, who saved the game against Glen Cove. With bases loaded and two outs, the Glen Cove batter hit the ball into right field and it looked like a base hit. However, Dina came running in, picked up the ball and threw out the batter at first base and saved the day. Both Coaches Goldberg and Dvorak are pleased with the work ethic and improvement in their skills.
