  • Sports: Division Avenue Bowling News

This year I say goodbye to many of my bowlers who started when I took over this team. Jen Rudolph started out on the boys' team and helped me start a girls bowling team at Division Avenue. She went out and recruited girls to form a team. She was the captain of this team which has successfully made the county tournament in the first three years of existence. This year she not only led the team but also led the seniors in the county. She averaged 193, had a high game of 247, and a high series of 670. She represented Division Avenue in the all county tournament for the third time this year and was joined by Michelle D'Attoma. Jen received the Wakefield Scholarship Award, which is given to the "most outstanding senior" in the county. She plans to attend Briarcliffe College to continue her education and her bowling career. • Sports: Island Trees Sports

It was a good week for the Lady Dawgs of Island Trees as they faced tough teams in Glen Cove and Lynbrook. In the bottom of the second, after a 2-out single by Jen Grella and a walk by Erin Dodge, senior Naji Barajas singled to right, scoring both runners for her first RBIs of the season. Going into the top of the 3rd with the score I.T. 3, Glen Cove 1, things got hectic. Glen Cove scored 3 runs to go ahead 4-3, but in the bottom of the 5th, the Dawgs would tie it and go back ahead with a clutch hit by senior Erin Dodge, bringing in both runs. Then, eighth-grader, Beth Hughes put the icing on the cake with her first homerun of the season, bringing in Lauren Poplawski, who had singled ahead of her. Final score Island Trees 7, Glen Cove 5. The winning pitcher was Lauren Poplawski. Next up was a long bus ride to Lynbrook. It was a very exciting game. Sophomore Michelle McGurk got her first varsity start and made the best of it, going 6 strong innings. With the score tied at 6, the game was stopped because of darkness. Some clutch hitting by Shannon McAdam, Jen Grella and Kate Schamberger was the key on offense. While on defense, Kate Schamberger was like Houdini on short stop, making play after play, every one better than the last. Stay tuned for the ending of a great game. FULL STORY
