Three MacArthur wrestlers battled their way through the New York State Championships this past weekend. Gian Villante was crowned New York State Champion after he defeated Mike Paterson of Section 5, Wayne High School. Gian has become MacArthur's most decorated wrestler ever. He avenged his 3-2 loss to Paterson last season in the state semi-finals. Gian finished third last season.
Adam Molano brought home a bronze medal. Adam finished 4 in 1 last weekend. After a semi-final loss to eventual champion Josh Glen from Section 4, Johnson City, Adam battled back to a third place finish. Adam kept his composure after his semi-final loss and won two tough matches to secure his bronze medal.
Matt Delorenzo brought home a fifth place medal. Matt lost his second match in overtime and then won his next two bouts to get him into the placing round. The 112-pound weight class may have been the toughest weight class in the tournament.
Coach Greenblatt couldn't have been any prouder of the MacArthur wrestlers' performance. Three New York State place winners in one season is incredible.
