American Legion Hosts Americanism Awards Night
American Legion Post 1711 of Levittown recently honored several individuals and community organizations during the post's annual Americanism Awards Night held last Friday. Awards were distributed to, among others, emergency service personnel, such as the fire department, the volunteer ambulance corps and the police department; as well as Scouting members and organization leaders.

Officials Say 'Don't Dump on Hempstead Town'
Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray and Councilwoman Angie Cullin held a press conference on Monday to announce their vehement opposition to the plan of rerouting north shore sewage to Hempstead Town's south shore waters. The town recently learned that the Village of Great Neck is considering a plan which would close the village's two sewage treatment plants along Manhasset Bay. These plants would be replaced with approximately 6.2 miles of pipeline in order to connect the village's sewage to existing south shore sewer lines. The Cedar Creek Sewage Treatment Plant, located in Wantagh, would then process the waste and discharge it into the Atlantic Ocean.

Levittown Player in Major League Camp
Levittown resident and Division Avenue HS graduate Shawn Fagan, who was a member of Division's undefeated 1996 state championship team as well as the 1995 team that lost in the state championship game, is now in the major league spring training camp of the Toronto Blue Jays.

MacArthur Wrestling News
Three MacArthur wrestlers battled their way through the New York State Championships this past weekend. Gian Villante was crowned New York State Champion after he defeated Mike Paterson of Section 5, Wayne High School. Gian has become MacArthur's most decorated wrestler ever. He avenged his 3-2 loss to Paterson last season in the state semi-finals. Gian finished third last season.
