The Generals wrestling team broke the county record for both points scored in a tournament and the present record of 12 All-County Wrestling in the Nassau County Wrestling Championships.
The General wrestlers scored 298 points and crowned 13 wrestlers with All-County honors. MacArthur also walked away with three Nassau County Champions. This was MacArthur's third consecutive Dual Meet and Tournament Championship. MacArthur has not lost a match in Nassau County in over three years.
Coach Greenblatt feels MacArthur's success is mostly due to the district's help with the Generals traveling to some of the nation's toughest competitions. He also feels the middle school, coached by Kurt Lassan and Stu Kempinski, has grown into a county power. The middle school is feeding MacArthur's varsity and junior varsity with well disciplined, technically sound freshman who are ready to accept the MacArthur High School work ethic and team discipline. The MacArthur wrestlers are doing a great job.
Three MacArthur wrestlers will travel up to the Syracuse War Memorial to compete in the New York State Wrestling Championships. Each wrestler will represent Nassau County in their respective weight class.
2003 All-American Adam Molano, Matt Delorenzo and Gian Villante will all challenge for State Titles. Last season, Villante finished third, Molano finished fourth and Delorenzo finished fifth in the state championships. Though the state tournament is incredibly tough, Coach Greenblatt feels the fact that all three are returning champions and placed winners at the tournament last year, their experience will be a huge factor in the state tournament this year.
