Senator Charles J. Fuschillo Jr. and Assemblyman Dave McDonough hosted a public hearing on charity fundraising on Jan. 30 to explore if donors and consumers are fully informed of where and how much of their donations actually go to their intended charity.

Residents Gather at BZA Meeting, Oppose Church Proposal
Dozens of local residents gathered at the Feb. 5 afternoon meeting of the Town of Hempstead Board of Zoning Appeals to voice their concerns regarding a proposed church to be constructed on the North Village Green in Levittown. While the issue at hand was parking, those in attendance also discussed traffic concerns, the church's expected hours of operation and the impact that this church would have on the community. In addition to residents, those on hand at the hearing included representatives of the proposed St. Thomas Malankara Orthodox Church and expert witnesses.

New York Power Visit Island Trees Middle School
Members of the New York Power participated in an assembly Tuesday at Island Trees Middle School in honor of National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Margaret Tietjen, Saskia Webber and Kristy Whelchel spoke to the students about the achievements and importance of sports and fitness participation for all girls and women. Power mascot "Zap" was also on hand to meet and greet the students.

MacArthur Wrestling Nassau County Champs
The MacArthur Generals marched through the Nassau County Dual Meet Championship this past weekend. MacArthur began their journey defeating Long Beach 51-16 in the quarter finals of the Class A Tournament. In the semifinals, MacArthur dominated and beat Farmingdale High School 53-12. In the Class A finals, MacArthur faced Nassau's undefeated East Meadow High School and the Generals won by a landslide score of 46-18. The Generals then faced undefeated Class B champions Bethpage High School and the Generals clinched the overall championship by a score of 53 to 15. Gian Villante earned his 100th win pinning Bethpage's heavyweight Joe Minette in one minute and 12 seconds. Congratulations to MacArthur on their third consecutive Nassau County Dual Meet Championship.
