By Kate Murray
Supervisor, Town of Hempstead
As Hempstead Town's new supervisor, I look forward to continuing this column as a vehicle to share information of interest with residents. I would also like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to those who may not be acquainted with me. Further, I encourage residents with concerns or problems to contact the town for assistance.
By way of introduction, friends and neighbors throughout the town should rest assured that I am committed to continuing the conservative fiscal policies that have earned our administration the respect of Wall Street credit rating agencies and the trust of residents. Furthermore, the town's excellent financial standing will allow us to continue improving parks, area roadways and local business districts. In addition, we will be maintaining popular services and programs in full force.
Prior to being named the first woman chief executive in Hempstead Town's 359-year history, I was the town's first female town clerk. Before I came to town government, I served four years in the State Assembly, being the first woman elected in the 19th District. I have also worked as an assistant attorney general, serving as the Deputy Section Chief of the Criminal Justice Section. Before my career in the attorney general's office, I served as an advocate for Suffolk University Battered Women's Advocacy Project where I offered legal representation to victims of domestic violence. Moreover, I have committed myself to a career of serving people.
Having the benefit of public input helps me serve our residents in the best manner possible. I encourage you to contact the town to share your opinion and views or to address concerns or problems. You can reach us in numerous ways:
