The Eastern States Classic consisted of 28 of the best teams from up and down the East Coast. Manalapan High School from New Jersey, Tyrone High School from Pennsylvania, and Ludlow High School from Massachusetts gave this tournament true national recognition. While Valley Central (NY), Monroe Woodbury (NY), and Minisink Valley (NY) all provided for tough inner state competition. With seven teams in contention to win the tournament it was the Generals from MacArthur that came out victorious. Freshmen Steve Delorenzo upset New York State top ranked Lou Ruggiello from Valley Central at 96 lbs. to take home the gold medal. While his older brother Matt Delorenzo at 119 lbs. defeated highly ranked two time state place winner from Manalapan, NJ Dan Hilt. Adam Molano, 152 lbs., defeated Dave McCarty from LaSalle Academy (NY) with a decisive victory in the finals to give him the gold, as well as the champion of champions award. Gian Villante solidified his number one ranking in the state, and added to his national ranking of eight with his dominating victory in the finals over Cole Merryman also from LaSalle Academy (NY). Bruce Popko, Dylan Reitmayr, Brent O'Donnell and T.J. Lazarus all placed as well giving MacArthur a total of eight place winners over the weekend. Great job General Wrestlers.
