  • News: Kate Murray to Step In as New Town Supervisor

    Following the Jan. 13 resignation announcement of Hempstead Town Supervisor Rich Guardino, the Republican Party officially nominated current Town Clerk Kate Murray to fill the position of town supervisor. The town board is expected to officially appoint Murray to this post during a Jan. 28 town board meeting, when Guardino will officially step down. Guardino announced his resignation during a press conference at Hofstra University last Monday and stated that he's leaving the political world to become executive dean of the university's Scott Skodnek Business Development Center, where he will oversee its operations.   • News: Peace Convoy Spreads Word About Bishops' Doubts on Iraq War

    As the possible start of a war on Iraq draws closer, a group of peace activists for the second time this month will be visiting parishes in Nassau County. The purpose of the event, which will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25, is to remind parishioners and priests that the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has overwhelmingly approved a statement asking President George W. Bush to "step back from the brink of war" against Iraq. FULL STORY

    The Boys and Girls Varsity Bowling Teams defeated Plainedge 11 - 0. Kim Kapica led all girls with a 163 high game and a 160 average. Heather Rooks was close behind with a 188 high game and a 155 average. The girls also bowled their high series of a 629. FULL STORY

  • Sports: MacArthur Wrestling News

    On Saturday Feb. 1, beginning at 10:30 a.m. the Generals will wrestle the number one ranked wrestling team from Suffolk County, Brentwood High School, as well as the number one ranked section nine wrestling team, Valley Central High School. MacArthur, which is the number one ranked wrestling team in Nassau County, will be putting it all on the line as they hold the battle of number ones at MacArthur High School. FULL STORY
