The MacArthur basketball team won their first annual holiday tournament held Dec. 20 and 21. The Generals defeated cross-town rival Island Trees in the championship game by the score of 64-51. Senior Joe Wilkinson scored 17 of his 24 points in the second half to earn the Jeff Shaw MVP Award. Senior Chris Sipp's 12 points and senior Tom Orbon's 10 rebounds earned them All-Tournament. The Generals advanced to the championship game by defeating Clarke on Friday night by the score of 46-38. Senior Tom Orbon led the Generals with a season high 22 points. The Generals record now stands at four wins one loss.

Island Trees advanced on Friday by defeating cross-town rival Division by the score of 64-46. Island Trees seniors Dondi Peterson, 16 points and Chris Bitetto, 10 points paced the Bull Dogs. Congratulations to All-Tournament team Division Pat Harloff; Clarke, Kevin Fabianski; Island Trees, Dondi Peterson and Chris Bitetto, MacArthur's Tom Orbon, Chris Sipp and Joe Wilkinson. According to Coach Tuttle, the tournament was a huge success. "I am happy I brought back the Levittown tournament, it's exciting for the kids to be able to compete against friends they grew up with," he said. "This is something they will remember for the rest of their lives."

Some of the proceeds from the tournament went to a scholarship in memory of Jeff Shaw. Jeff was a big supporter of MacArthur basketball and his son Michael starts on the varsity team. Each year the scholarship will benefit one MacArthur basketball player who exemplifies dedication in the classroom and effort on the basketball court.

Coach Tuttle would like to thank the administration at MacArthur and all who participated in making this event such a success. The Generals started their league season on Jan. 3 at home. The remaining home games are to be held Saturday, Jan. 25 against Plainview JFK; Monday, Feb. 3 against Elmont; and Monday, Feb. 10 against Hicksville. All games will be 5:30 p.m. JV, 7:15 p.m. Varsity.
