As we start the new season of basketball here at Division Avenue, we are looking forward to many successful wins from the team. Our cheerleaders are working hard to improve on last season, try new and exciting stunts and cheers and cheer the Dragons on to victory. One interesting development this season is the addition of two very talented young men to the cheerleading team. They are both sophomores and have been working hard to help the team cheer the basketball players on. They are Tom Anderson and Alex DiDio. The school is very supportive of both boys and I am proud of their hard work and dedication. I'd like to welcome them to the team and I hope they continue to cheer for us for the rest of their high school career.

One person on our team whom I would like to highlight in this article is co-captain and senior Nicole Witteck. Nicole has been a Division Avenue cheerleader throughout her high school career and has been cheerleading since she was 11 years old. She has participated in Red Devil's cheerleading for two years and was involved in St. Bernard's CYO cheerleading for three years. Nicole is a very supportive and outgoing leader who is respected by her teammates and peers.

Nicole is very active in other activities our school has to offer as well. She is a member of the Business and Marketing Honor Society and has helped in the Thanksgiving food drive and homecoming preparations for her class. She has also been involved in a number of senior class events this year and was selected by her classmates as a Homecoming Nominee this past football season. Nicole has also done fund-raising events in cheerleading as well. She plans on attending either Cortland University or SUNY Stony Brook to study criminal justice or business law.

Nicole is a very bright, friendly, outgoing and cheerful person who brings a lot of laughs and spirit to the varsity team. It's been a pleasure to work with her for the last three seasons and I wish Nicole the best of luck in all that she does. I know that her friendly and easygoing personality and her dedication will help Nicole to succeed in everything she sets out to achieve. I invite all to come and support Nicole, Alex, Tom and the rest of the Varsity cheerleaders, as well as the basketball team as the season progresses.
