You don't require Art Linkletter's experience with children to know that kids do, indeed, say the darnest things. They also write them in the guest book of the Levittown Historical Society's museum in the Levittown Memorial Education Center.

Since its opening in 1997, several thousand school children have come to the museum on class field trips. For many, its the first time they are learning about World War II, the farms and airfields that operated in their community, and American domestic life before everyone had TVs, cell phones, and microwave ovens. And their comments in our guest book and in their "thank you" letters exude youthful enthusiasm. Amid the obligatory, well-traveled, superlatives of praise, are real glittering gems.

One child "liked the bedroom, especially because it made me think of what I want to do with my own room." Our museum's bedroom is circa 1960 so it remains to be seen how long this youngster's room remains without a computer or Gameboy.

Looking at the photographs from the late 1940s, another tot proudly stated "I have the most original house in Levittown." Now the Smithsonian Institution and Levittown Historical Society can stop searching. Still another informed us that, although he enjoyed the museum tour, he was planning to own a large mansion when he grew up and the small Levittown driveway would never accommodate the three luxury cars he was planning to purchase. Talk about the American Dream!

Between "Really Cool!" and "This is soooo cool!," one student philosophically pondered "it makes me wonder what my grandparents had" and another observed that "it makes me happy to have things in our time."

Moe, Larry, and Curly evidently dropped by one day and signed the guest book with a hearty "Nyuk! Nyuk! Nyuk!" and, if the signature is authentic, Bill Clinton also stopped by for a visit.

Youthful enthusiasm for Levittown is nothing new. One day back in 1947, a child was overheard at bedtime prayer saying "God bless Mommy, Daddy, and Mr. Levitt." Indeed!
