Toys for Sick Children Inc. is continuing its 11th annual holiday toy drive throughout December. Founded by Levittown resident John Theissen, the organization provides children's hospitals and childcare facilities with recreational and therapeutic equipment.
Residents who wish to help contribute to the cause may drop off donations at two locations this year: 15 Deep Lane (behind Cherrywood Shopping Center off Duckpond Drive) and 1632 Wantagh Avenue in Wantagh. Upcoming donation dates are Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 30 and Dec.1; Dec. 7 and 8; Dec. 14 and 15 and Dec. 21 and 22.
Residents are asked to donate a new unwrapped toy for ages infant to 18 years old. Monetary donations may be sent to Toys for Sick Children, Inc., 15 Deep Lane, Wantagh NY 11793 or to the office at 1632 Wantagh Avenue, Wantagh NY 11793. Please make checks payable to Toys for Sick Children, Inc. All donations are tax deductible. For more information, call 679-5098 or 679-8118 or visit www.toysforsickchildren.org.
In addition to making a toy contribution, residents are also invited to come to Mulcahy's Sports Bar in Wantagh for its holiday fundraiser to benefit Toys for Sick Children. The event is taking place on Wednesday, Dec. 4, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The evening will feature various athletes, cocktails, dinner, live music and a live auction (beginning at 8 p.m.).
The cost for general admission is $50. Tickets may be purchased in advance at Ticketmaster or at Mulcahy's front bar. Tickets will be available at the door on the night of the event. Mulcahy's is located at 3232 Railroad Avenue in Wantagh.
Since its founding in 1992, the organization's annual toy drive has collected over 200,000 new toys. In addition, donations have enabled them to provide televisions, VCRs, video game systems, wheelchairs, arts and crafts supplies and more to needy children.
