It has come to my attention that there may be some confusion regarding the name of the vocational occupational program in Levittown and the building in which this program is housed.
Upon his retirement in June of 2002, the district's vocational occupational program (not the building in which it is housed) was named after Gerald R. Claps. Jerry graduated from MacArthur High School in 1962, served in Vietnam and taught in the Levittown School District for 34 years. In addition to the Gerald R. Claps Career & Technical Center, the Levittown Memorial Education Center houses the district's administrative offices, special education offices, computer technology, the district's athletic and health offices, the gifted and talented program, the Levittown Parent Center and the Levittown Teachers' Center.
In order to correct any misunderstanding regarding this honor, I would like to reiterate that it is only the vocational occupational program and not the building in which it is housed that bears his name. The building, Levittown Memorial Education Center, has and will always retain its name in memory of Levittown veterans who gave their lives ensuring liberty for their neighbors.
In order to assure clarity on this issue, I have asked all programs that are housed in the Levittown Memorial Education Center to include the name of the building on all letterhead.
I thank you for your understanding.
