Last week the Division Avenue Girls' Varsity Soccer Team went to Great Neck South knowing that a victory would clinch the Conference V title, but a loss would put them in a tie for second place. With only two games remaining in the season, this was extreme pressure for the girls. Not since 1996 had a Division Avenue Girls' Soccer Team come in first place! The stage was set and the Lady Dragons rose to the occasion with a 3-1 victory. Courtney Schmaeling had a goal in each half and freshman Michelle Cordts added another as insurance. This game was played under horrible field conditions after two days of torrential rain, yet the Levittown girls played one of their best games of the season.

Leading the defense was Katie Condit, Chrissy Fama and sisters Maria and Martina Liguori. The midfield of Jenna Goldman, Christina Buckley and Jessica Graziano ground it out in the mud all afternoon to win almost all 50-50 balls. Helping offensively was Meagan Gilroy and Nicole Williams, as well as the goal scorers.

This win not only clinched first place for the Dragons, but it ensured a good seed in the Nassau County playoffs. Since 1996 the Lady Dragons have qualified for the playoffs six out of seven seasons!
