Local voters returned Republican incumbents to their seats in Congress, the Senate and the Assembly on Tuesday. (Editor's Note: Please note that these are not final numbers, as absentee ballots had not yet been tallied at press time).

In the 19th Assembly District, voters returned Republican incumbent David G. McDonough to office. McDonough, who was first elected in a special election held this past February, received approximately 62 percent of the vote, defeating Democratic challenger Michael Moore, who received approximately 38 percent.

The 19th Assembly District encompasses the communities (or portions of) Levittown, Merrick, Bellmore, Baldwin Harbor and East Meadow. After the recent redistricting, the district now includes the communities of Wantagh (including North Wantagh) and Seaford.

Republican incumbent Donna Ferrara was re-elected to serve her sixth term in the newly reapportioned 15th Assembly District. Ferrara received approximately 69 percent of the vote, defeating Democratic challenger Jim Buonagura, who received approximately 28 percent, and Right to Life candidate George Jung, who received approximately three percent.

The 15th district includes the communities of (or portions of) such as Westbury, East Meadow, Old Westbury, Bethpage, Syosset, Jericho, Hicksville, Oyster Bay and East Norwich.

In the 12th Assembly District, Republican incumbent Steven Labriola was also returned to his seat in the Assembly. Labriola, who also ran on the Independence and Conservative party lines, received approximately 76 percent of the vote, defeating Democratic challenger Stanley Bergman, who received approximately 24 percent. Liberal candidate Sol Hamill received less than one percent.

After the redistricting, the 12th Assembly District now includes the majority of Island Trees and parts of Levittown, North Wantagh and Seaford, in addition to South Farmingdale, the Massapequas and Plainedge. This election win marks Labriola's fourth term in office.

In the 6th Senatorial District, Republican incumbent Kemp Hannon defeated Democratic candidate Norman St. George. Hannon, who was first elected to the Senate in 1989, received approximately 61 percent of the vote while St. George received approximately 35 percent. Right to Life candidate Paul F. Callahan receiving approximately three percent while Liberal candidate Patricia Maher received approximately one percent. This will mark Hannon's eighth term in office.

The 6th Senatorial District, which was minimally affected by the recent redistricting throughout the state, covers the communities of East Meadow, Farmingdale, Garden City, Levittown, Massapequa and Plainview.

In the 8th Senatorial District, Republican incumbent Charles J. Fuschillo Jr. prevailed over his Democratic challenger Kenneth Dash. Fuschillo, who was first elected in March of 1998, will now enter his third term in office.

The senator received approximately 69 percent of the vote, defeating Dash, who received approximately 31 percent.

After the recent redistricting, the 8th Senatorial District encompasses several communities (or parts of) between Baldwin and Lindenhurst, including Merrick, Bellmore, Freeport, Wantagh, Seaford, Massapequa and Farmingdale.

In the 3rd Congressional District, which includes the communities of (or portions of) Farmingdale, Plainedge, the Massapequas, Wantagh, Seaford, East Meadow and Levittown, Republican incumbent Peter King prevailed with approximately 72 percent of the vote. The congressman, who was first elected into the district in 1992, was challenged by Democrat Stuart Finz, a political newcomer, who received approximately 27 percent of the vote, and Liberal candidate Janeen DePrima, who received approximately one percent. This election win will mark King's sixth term in Congress.
