Michael Kallas
|
(Editor's Note: The following was submitted by Rose and John Kallas and family). Michael Kallas, 32, a graduate of Division Avenue High School in Levittown, was suddenly taken from us on September 29, 2002 by a drunk driver. He is survived by his loving wife Caroline and his parents John and Rose. He is adored by his brothers and sisters: Diane, John, Debbie, Joseph, Robert and Lori. Michael has six loving nephews: Keith, Thomas, James, Johnny, Joey and Matthew and two loving nieces: Dominique and Savannah. He was the beloved grandson of Ginette, Dorothy and John Sr. and Judith. Michael was born and raised in Levittown. We have four generations living in this town. We have lived here for over 32 years. Levittown has always been very special to us. He was in the Red Devils Football Program from the age of 6 through 15. He received the highest award given to a Red Devils player in his senior year. Michael went to Division Avenue High School where he played on the Blue Dragons football team. Michael was a great guy with a great sense of humor. He could turn any situation into a fun one. He was also a true friend to anyone who knew him. He would help you any way he could. At Michael's wake on Thursday, Oct. 3 at the Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home, we were overwhelmed by the amount of support and love that we received on Michael's behalf. From the sympathy cards, Mass cards, gift baskets, dinners brought to our home and the staggering amount of people who came to the viewing to the people who came back again on Sunday, Oct. 6 to the church service we had for our son, Joseph, who was in Saudi Arabia in the Air Force at the time and couldn't get home. The support was unbelievable. The support that our children and grandchildren received from Abbey Lane, Wisdom Lane and Division Avenue Schools just demonstrates what a caring town Levittown is. Week after week we read about the problems in our school district but the immediate attention that our children and grandchildren received from the administration at Division Avenue High School, from the teachers and social workers at Wisdom Lane School and even our grandchildren's bus driver from Abbey Lane completely overwhelmed us. This is a great town with many warm, loving, caring people. No words can express the gratitude we want to convey. Everyone has been so supportive. The love we share within our family will pull us through this heartbreaking time, but we know we're not alone. Not only do we have our family, friends and neighbors, but we know Michael will always be watching over us and guiding us with his love. We will all miss him dearly.
