Who says you can't go home again? Certainly not the MacArthur students, faculty and staff who welcomed their alumni back to the home field last Saturday under sunny skies and spring-like weather. Drenching rains on the days before had threatened to dampen the celebration but Mother Nature came through - and so did the Generals as they delivered a defeat to the visiting team from Calhoun HS with a score of 7 - 6.
The festivities began with a parade of clubs and teams sporting banners that wound its way up Wantagh Avenue from the Cherrywood Shopping Center to the field where the marching band, Macettes and cheerleaders all combined to present a show marked with precision and originality. Gene Feder, English teacher, once again provided the play-by-play broadcasting that kept the fans on top of the game. Teary-eyed parents of seniors from the football team, cheerleading squad and marching band were escorted onto the field for pictures as the crowd roared its approval. A highlight of the event was the parade of homecoming candidates who rode around the track waving to the fans from luxurious convertibles borrowed for the occasion. Nominees for Homecoming King included Adam Molano, Mike Shaw, Rick Bruno, Carl Saviano, and Luke Ingram while the contenders for Homecoming Queen were Amara Erdrich, Jillian Ciccone, Rachel Pagona, Anne Roach, and Tracy Waring. The suspense was broken as the winners - Adam Molano and Jillian Ciccone - were crowned and rode around the track in their "victory lap."
An important part of the event was the invaluable assistance from the parents from MacPac who staffed the snack shack, serving delicious fare from the Outback Restaurant to the fans as they enjoyed the menu items and cheered with the crowd at yet another successful Homecoming at MacArthur High School.
