"Theodore Roosevelt is not an American" the British journalist John Morley famously quipped back in 1903, "Theodore Roosevelt is America". Indeed, eighty-two years after his death at his quiet home at Sagamore Hill, Roosevelt's imposing presence, his righteous and crusading audacity, and his utterly unrestrained brashness render him one of the world's most beloved Americans. He perfectly captured the essence of his day and it is with extraordinary skill and attention to detail (not to mention an uncanny physical resemblance) that Long Island actor and historian, James Foote keeps the spirit of TR alive.
There are few Long Islanders today who are unfamiliar with James Foote. His impersonation of President Roosevelt in full regalia coupled with an historical acumen that suggests TR's own intellectual prowess makes him one of the most entertaining Long Islanders alive today. It is with great fortune that the Levittown Historical Society presents an evening with Mr. Foote at the Levittown Public Library on September 16 at 7:30 p.m. All are invited, no admission is charged, and refreshments are free. Persons seeking more information should contact the Levittown Historical Society at 735-9060.
