This year marked the 21st year of operation for the summer recreation program directed by the Levittown/Island Trees Youth Council with the cooperation of the Levittown School District. The program was a huge success with well over 600 children registering for the many activities. They participated over a five-week period in recreational activities such as basketball, softball, knock hockey as well as arts and crafts and field day. In addition, the program provides employment for over 75 local young people who assist in running the activities and counseling the young children in the program. This year also saw the continuation of a separate sports program which included a week each of intensive basketball, soccer and lacrosse instruction from local high school coaches. As in the past, on behalf of all the members of the Youth Council, Executive Director Kevin Regan would like to thank all the employees and counselors, in particular Dr. Herman Sirois, superintendent of schools; Assistant Superintendent Bob Davis; District Athletic Director Keith Snyder; Anna and Linda, the office staff of the physical education department and the custodial staff at Levittown Memorial Education Center for their cooperation in making this another successful year for the Levittown/Island Trees Youth Council.
