It was announced recently that Nick Mormando, proprietor of North and South Levittown Lanes, Westbury Bowl and Hollywood Lanes and Stuart Lanes in Florida, will be inducted into the American Bowling Congress (ABC) "Hall of Fame" at their Annual Convention & Tournament on March 13, 2003 in Knoxville, TN.
Mormando, who is already enshrined in the Bowling Proprietors Association of America wing of the IBM/HF in St. Louis as a BPAA Victor Lerner Memorial Medal winner, has devoted more than 20 years of service to the Hall of Fame as its most successful fund raiser.
He not only led efforts to get bowling manufacturers and proprietors involved, but chaired the sight-selection design and construction committees. After serving as the IBM/HF president for several years, Mormando played an instrumental role in creating the black-tie Salute to Champions dinner which has become one of the IBM/HF's most important annual fundraisers.
Throughout his 50-year involvement in the sport, Mormando has been an outspoken advocate for sanctioned competition. "ABC has always been the high priest of the game and I regard them as such," said the new Meritorious Service honoree. "I have always believed in the importance of integrity in the game. I have spent the best part of 20 years involved with the Hall of Fame because of my profound love of the game. It has been a long road, but I think the result is the finest hall of fame in the world of sports."
Speaking of his election to the ABC Hall of Fame, Mormando said, "It's beyond belief. It's probably the most exciting thing that has ever happened to me in this industry."
In addition to owning five bowling centers, Mormando also owns the world-renowned LaStrada restaurant in downtown Chicago.
