It was a very hot and humid day when the average person would love to hang around by the pool or stay indoors in the air conditioning. But for the Nassau County Police Emerald Society, it was a charity softball game against the Nassau County Sheriffs Department Emerald Society. There were no pools and no air conditioning, just Coach Lou Walker screaming, "Let's play ball." If anyone allowed a run, they would have to give $10 to charity. The same would apply if an error was made. All money raised goes to Down Syndrome Children, M.S. A.H.R.C. Cystic Fibrosis and Children of Hope.

It was a battle of the badges, the score didn't matter - only that the good guys won and $7,000 was raised through ticket sales, chances sold and hot dogs and soda. The society thanks everyone for their support and will attempt to play indoors next year.
