The Long Island Empire State baseball team was ably represented by three pitchers from the Levittown schools. Jesse Darcy from Levittown Division HS and Tom Orbon and Dan Horvat from MacArthur HS each pitched and won games for the Long Island team at the 25th Anniversary Empire State Games in Cortland, NY. The Levittown trio, all entering their senior year of high school, accounted for three of Long Island's four victories, leading the Long Island Region to a silver medal. Dan Horvat pitched a complete game in the team's 11-6 victory over the Hudson Valley region. Jesse Darcy pitched into the seventh inning of a 7-6 victory over the Adirondack region. Tom Orbon pitched a complete game, giving up only four hits, in a game that went nine innings resulting in a 3-2 victory over the Central region. The Long Island team made it to the gold medal game where they lost to a tough team from the Western region. Throughout the grueling three-day tournament, the Long Island trio demonstrated the same competitive, tough discipline that has become the trademark of Levittown baseball.
