Senator Kemp Hannon is sponsoring a free forum for senior citizens throughout his district on Tuesday, Aug. 20 at the Farmingdale Public Library from 1 to 3 p.m. This program is open to all senior citizens, their families and those planning for the future. During the forum, entitled "Protecting Your Life's Work in an Uncertain World," a variety of topics will be discussed, including elder and estate law, long-term care issues and Medicare and Medicaid.

The forum will feature three panelists: Raymond P. Donnelly, certified senior advisor; Elizabeth Pollina-Donlon an estate planning attorney and Sheila M. Lyons, an elder law attorney and certified social worker. Hannon noted that these individuals will assist those in attendance to better understand the sometimes confusing world of the future.

"They will guide us through the complex and complicated world of elder law, long-term care and estate planning," he said. In addition to the panelists being on hand, free materials pertaining to long term care insurance and other issues of concern to senior citizens will be available at the seminar.

Hannon has hosted such forums and sponsored other health related programs in the past, including this recent health fair held in Island Trees. He will be hosting additional programs like this forum in the fall, with a senior fair being planned for early October in Levittown Hall in Hicksville and another forum planned for late October.

The senator's past senior fairs and health fairs have proven to be successful. He said that it's important to educate seniors about their options for the future.

"I am offering this free forum because the 'golden years' can be difficult for seniors and their families who very often don't understand what their options are or even worse, are not prepared to deal with the loss of income or an illness. It is my hope that with a better understanding of services, our 'golden years' can be a time to do the things we've always dreamed about," Hannon said.

Residents are invited to come down to the Farmingdale Library on Aug. 20 for the forum. Registration for the program opens at 12:45 p.m. and the forum will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. The Farmingdale Public Library is located at 116 Merritts Road in Farmingdale. To reserve a seat, residents may call Senator Hannon's community office at 222-0068.
