Members of American Legion Post 1711 in Levittown gathered with their friends and families last weekend to celebrate the installation of its new slate of officers and commander at the post.

Post members installed included Bill Shea, Jack Byrne, Stan Hosierowski, Bob Schweitzer, Bill Hynes (past commander), Andy Booth, Tom DiIorio, Stu McKinney, Marty Chiani, Arty DeLury, John Dobler and George Ebling. Henry To, who was unable to attend, was officially installed as commander of the post.

In addition to installing those members to their posts, the American Legion also made some special presentations. Post members honored Larry Giove for 50 years of outstanding service to the post and presented him with a personalized sweatshirt bearing the post name and depicting the fact that he has served the post for five decades.

Post members also honored two high school students with scholarship awards. Consideration for the scholarship is open to students of the community's local high schools and is extended to the families of post members if there are not enough applicants from the local schools. This year's winners were Pam Chiani , a student at Division Avenue High School and Michelle Dramanti from East Islip.

All in attendance enjoyed the event. Following the installation ceremony and award presentations, post members and their families enjoyed dinner and dancing throughout the evening.
