This weekend marked the end of another successful season for the Tomahawks with a great time had by all. On behalf of P.A.L., I would like to thank the coaches for their time, effort and dedication to their teams and the program, without them we wouldn't exist. Just a reminder that the awards brunch will be held on Sunday June 23rd at 10:00 am at Antuns restaurant in Hicksville. The season ending results are as follows:
The fifth graders finished their season with a win over Mineola last Tuesday 5-2. Playing with only 13 players because of a school field trip the Tomahawks were forced to play many positions and still won. The team completed a great season in which they lost to only two teams, Bethpage (twice) and Lynbrook to finish up with a very impressive record of five wins and three loses.
The fifth and sixth graders played Huntington and won again 7-1 to finish their season with a record of seven wins and one loss. Goalie Tom Bruno made 15 saves some of which were one on one situations to seal the win. He was backed up by the close defense of Cody Occhini, Sean Kelley, Ryan Ramo and Tom Whitlock who also played some attack and took a few great shots on net. The offense moved the ball very well confusing the Huntington defensemen. John Augeri led the scoring with 3 goals while Cody Lacey dished out 3 assists. Also scoring were Tom Whitfield with 2 goals and 2 assists and Chris Tornebene with 2 goals and 1 assist. After the game coach Augeri expressed how proud he is of the players for their display of sportsmanship and skill for the game throughout the season. He asked them to remember this quote, " Only the bravest try, where Eagles and Angles dare to fly."
The sixth graders traveled over to Rockville Center and played a perennial powerhouse and emerged with another impressive victory 9-2. This win capped the only undefeated Tomahawk season, (8 wins and no loses) in recent memory. The Tomahawk offense was just too much for Rockville Center to handle. The team had outstanding performances once again from Kyle Carley (3 goals, 4 assists), Bryan Hall (3 goals, 2 assists) and Brett Tom (3 goals). Equally impressive was the midfield play of Jarrod Allen and Dan Joseph, which helped keep the ball in the Tomahawk offensive side of the field. When they were on defense the Tomahawks were once again led by the tremendous play of defensemen Tom Celentani, Matt Burmeister, Kyle Harren and Christian Ayala. Goalie Mike Andersen was awesome once again making 19 saves. Groundball king of the day was Sean Cox with 6. Head coach Jerry Hall and assistant Richie Andersen would like to thank all of the players and parents for their support and enthusiasm throughout this memorable season.
