The Tomahawks treated their mothers to a great Mother's Day of lacrosse this past Sunday as they completed the sixth week of their season. The available results are as follows;
The third and fourth graders played a very tough Massapequa team and ended up with a hard fought 8-4 loss. The highpoints of the game were the great offense that was played by Thomas Nuckel (2 goals), Jamie McAndrew (1 goal, 1 assist) and Tyler Hastings (1 goal). Patrick Dreiss and Joseph Gombar each added an assist. The defensive play of Peter Mack, Zachary Trimboli and Bryan Seiber was super as helped keep Massapequa in check. Having an outstanding day in the goal was the Thomas McDevitt and Max Transou each making several key saves. Patrick Buckley, Kyle Jordan, Zachary Parker and Keith Kerwin were the ground ball kings getting five each. The 3rd and 4th grade travels to North Babylon next weekend.
The fourth graders kept their unbeaten streak alive as they defeated a talented Hicksville team 10-4. They showed a true team effort with all of the players contributing to the win. Scoring goals were Dylan Muller with three and Dean Knox with two. Bryan Verbitsky, Kevin Mitchell, Daniel Bartlett, Patrick Barber and Josh Barry each added one. Dishing out assists were Tim Michaels with three and Fred Mase, Brendan Mayes, Tom Duggan and George Athans with one each. The defense led by goalie Matt Cronin and his 14 saves along with Peter Thearle, Ryan Braithwaite, James Collins, Joe Costable and Sean Seiderman held Hicksville scoreless in the second half of the game. The team will next take on North Shore in a home game this Sunday at 10:30.
The fifth graders traveled out to Lynbrook and lost a heartbreaker 5-3. The game was as exciting as it gets with the action never letting up right to the end. Goalie Joe Homkow was unbelievable in the net stopping several Lynbrook shots at point blank range. Chris Nasiatka (two goals) and John Thearle(one goal) provided the scoring but the entire team was in on all the action. Ryan Grant was once again the face-off master winning eight key face-offs when they were needed. The groundball king was Kevin Catalano with six. The team next takes on Seaford in a home game on Sunday at noon.
The fifth and sixth graders played a super game against a tough Franklin Square Team and lost a thriller 7-6. Playing with only three substitutes the team showed unbelievable pride and effort in a game that went goal for goal until the end. Scoring was done by Chris Tornebene (two goals), Tom Whitfield (two goals) and Dylan Saccone, and John Augeri with one each. Goalie Tom Bruno not only played outstanding in the net making 18 saves he also dished out an assist. He was backed up by the tough close defense of Cody Occhini, Sean Reilly and Ryan Ramo. Next week the boys take on East Meadow in an away game.
