The Wisdom Lane 8th Grade Girls' Basketball Team just completed what many may say was the most dominant season in recent history. The girls from Wisdom Lane would post a 10 and 0 season but it was the way they went about it that separates them from other teams. The Wildcats would beat their opponents by a remarkable average of 42 points per game! They also held their opponents to just 21 points per game.
Late in the season the girls faced a touch test as they took on rival Berner. The girls headed in with a record of 7 and 0. The Wildcats hit the road against Berner and would come out sluggish. They held just a 10-6 lead at the half. The wake up call came and the girls went on a 24-2 run to start the second half to erase any thoughts of an upset. Lauren Costello would take charge and dazzle the crowd as she poured in 17 points and 7 rebounds for the Wildcats. Jen Brouillet also chipped in with 8 points and 9 rebounds. Courtney Phillips, Maria Liguori, Nicole Foy, Leigh Blinn, and Stephanie Ditrich provided outstanding defense for the team. It was after this game that the Wildcats held a team meeting that paved the way for the last two games of the season. The girls realized that they were capable of being a special group at Wisdom Lane and decided they wanted to leave their mark as one of the best. With two games remaining in their season they decided they wanted to go out in style. The girls wanted to play their last two games as close to perfection as possible and came awfully close to doing so. They would go on to defeat their last two opponents by a combined score of 175 to 38. In their last game at Wisdom Lane the Wildcats would go on to defeat Grand Avenue in easy fashion. Six Wildcats would score in double figures to once again show how well rounded this team was. Jen Brouillet 17 points, Lauren Costello 15 points, Denise Uschakow 14 points, Kara Darcey 11 points, Tara McBride 10 points, Maria Liguori 10 points, and Jaclyn Masone 8 points led the way. Courtney Phillips 7 steals, Angie Goldstein 5 rebounds and 4 steals, Brianna Lutz 4 rebounds, and Stephanie Ditrich 3 steals helped lead the Wildcats to victory. Kristina Boisvert, Leigh Blinn, Nicole Foy, Lindsey Conklin, and Kim Dong provided outstanding defense as the Wildcats held their opponent to just 20 points.
The girls work ethic and passion for the game was what made them a special group. They truly are an example of hard work paying off. This was in every aspect of the word a team. Each player contributed in one way or another to the success of this team. Lauren Costello would be the leading scorer with an average of 17 points per game. Kara Darcey 9 points per game, Tara McBride 7 points per game, Jen Brouillet 6 points per game, Courtney Phillips 6 points per game, Jaclyn Masone 6 points per game, and Angie Goldstein 4 points per game led the Wildcats attack all year long. Denise Uschakow, Maria Liguori, Kim Dong, Stephanie Ditrich, Leigh Blinn, Brianna Lutz, Nicole Foy, Lindsey Conklin, and Kristina Boisvert provided game in and game out the stifling defense that quite often rattled opponents. This group of Wildcats will often be the measuring stick for teams to come. They are Wisdom Lane's loss but Division Avenue gain. The future looks bright for the high school team as this new group of Wildcats gets ready to bring their talent to the next level.
