The fourth annual Levittown Lacrosse Tournament was held on Thursday, March 21, and Saturday, March 23. MacArthur hosted the tournament this year with Division, Island Trees, and East Islip participating. The first round held on Thursday featured the match-ups of Island Trees against MacArthur, and Division against East Islip. MacArthur defeated Island Trees by a score of 11-3, and was led by Nick Tintle, who had 3 goals and 3 assists, and Jason Cappadoro with 2 goals and 2 assists. Also, Division beat East Islip 12-9 to set up a cross-town rival championship game on Saturday. Chris Kelly and Bill Bruckbauer led Division with 3 goals apiece.
On Saturday, there were many activities held during the day. The junior varsity teams played in the morning for the Levittown JV trophy where Division defeated MacArthur in the finals. In addition, various shooting contests were held during the intermissions of the varsity games for all younger players from third through eighth grades. Champions in each grade level were awarded trophies for their great performances. Local businesses made generous donations toward raffle prizes. Mr. Thearle from South Bay Trucking donated a 29 in. color TV to be raffled off, along with a lacrosse stick donated by Mr. DeSimone from Lacrosse Unlimited.
In the consolation game, Island Trees defeated East Islip by a score of 9-4. Matt Fiorello had 4 goals, and Paul Widginski had 3 goals to lead the way for Island Trees. In the finals, MacArthur pulled out a hard fought victory over Division 13-8 to maintain possession of the Levittown trophy for the third consecutive year. Jeff King led MacArthur with 5 goals and 2 assists and Jason Cappadoro had 3 goals and 5 assists. Bill Bruckbauer scored 4 goals and 2 assists and Jason Cappadoro had 3 goals and 5 assists. Bill Bruckbauer scored 4 goals for Division. Game officials selected Jeff King and Bill Bruckbauer as Tournament MVPs. Congratulations to all of the schools and parents who helped make this year's Levittown Tournament such a great success.
