After going 2-0 in their non-league schedule the Blue Dragons baseball team opened up its league season, with a 14-2 victory over Valley Stream South. Josh Flinn was Division's winning pitcher going six innings, and allowing only two hits while striking out 11 batters, and allowing no runs.
The Blue Dragon's offense was led by Scott Porter, a junior first baseman who had three hits and two home runs. Scott finished the day with three RBIs and three runs scored. Tom Messina has a bases loaded double for three RBIs while another junior Ray Montoro, added two hits and two RBIs. Chris Castellano and Shawn Sewith both added two hits. Chris also threw out the only runner attempting to steal by at least 10 feet, as he continued to excel defensively.
In Division's second league crossover game they played a tough Seaford team fresh off a big victory over highly regarded Carey. Junior Jesse Darcy pitched a very strong game scattering four hits while striking out 12 batters. Big hits for Division were by juniors Ray Montoro and Scott Porter as well as sophomore Brian Chenicek. The real offensive key to the victory was the base running of Jeff Tamamez, Keith Feldman and Brian Chenicek.
This past Friday, the Dragons beat Hewlett in a non-league game. Pitchers Dan Weingart and Scott Porter combined for a four hit victory, while combining for eight strikeouts. Jeff Tamarez started the game off with a lead off homer in the first inning, as he went on to have a three hit, three RBIs, two run game. Other big hitters for Division were Ray Montoro with two RBIs, Tom Messina who scored three runs, Chris Castellano and Brian Chenicek who both chipped in with two hits apiece.
Next week Division plays against Glen Cove in a three game series with the Blue Dragons away on Tuesday and Friday and home on Wednesday. All three games will start at 4:45 p.m.
