The Generals wrestlers finished their sweep of both Nassau County Championships. First the dual meet championship, then the individual county championships. In front of over 2,000 fans at Nassau Community College, the Generals crowned 6 county champions. Six champions is a county record. The rally began with junior Matt Delorenzo at the 96 pound weight class. Next came freshman Bruce Popko at 103 pound class. At 140, senior James Strouse pinned his opponent. At 145, junior Adam Molano, 152 senior Rob Stubbs and at heavy weight junior Gian Villante also brought home golds. Joe Vasold finished third securing the Generals with a team title.

The Generals have won the county championships the past two years. Coach Greenblatt attributes it to the strong work ethic and leadership of the teams. Seniors Paul Mazziotti, Max Reitmayr, Greg Caputo, Evan Schantz, James Strouse, Joe Vasold, Rob Stubbs and Mike Calandra led the Generals as senior captains. Coach Rob Paletta's development of the freshman and Coach Lehman's junior varsity success has been feeding the varsity young talent ready to step into the varsity program with Coach Bobal and Greenblatt. Coach Greenblatt feels the program is in place for other future championships. The boys take tons of pride in their commitment to hard work. The Generals are the #1 team in New York State. The coach believes they may also be the #1 team academically. As coach, Greenblatt couldn't dream of better support from the board of education, the district administration and high school administrators.

The Generals County Champions will represent section 8 at the New York State Championships this weekend at the Syracuse War Memorial in Syracuse. Good luck to the wrestlers.
