Kiwanis International is an organization of community service clubs with more than 320,000 members in 8,500 clubs throughout the world, half of which are located in North America. A Kiwanis club is a group of local business people with a typical membership of 25 to 60 people; however, the larger clubs number about 500. Each Kiwanis Club meets once a week and has several committees that implement service projects.
Kiwanis members are called Kiwanians. (This is pronounced with the accent on the second syllable: Ki-wan-ee-an).
The average Kiwanian is 55 years old. Forty percent of members are mid-level executives, 30 percent are entrepreneurs and the remaining 30 percent represent other professions or are retirees.
Kiwanis clubs are organized into divisions, with generally eight to 15 clubs in each one. Divisions are organized into districts, which may cover one state or several states. Districts vary in size from 100 to 600 clubs.

Please save all your soda/drink flip top tabs and all your Campbell soup labels and General Mills box tops and turn them in to the Levittown Kiwanis Club at one of our meetings. You may ask: why labels and soda tabs? The labels and box tops go to St. Jude's Ranch for Children, where they redeem them for a monetary amount. The soda tabs go to the Bellmore Fire Department and Fork Lane School in Hicksville. They are redeemed for monetary donations to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Annual Kiwanis Club Pancake Breakfast will be held at the Memorial Education Center on Sunday morning, March 17, from 7 to 11 a.m. That Sunday is also the LEAD WEEK FAMILY WALK and FAIR at Memorial. Come early to get your pancakes and then walk it off at the Lead Walk. Hope to see you there.
