The first finisher overall in the Jan. 27 Heckscher Park 5 Kilometer Run, the kickoff event for the three race Long Island State Parks Winter Series, was Levittown speedster Carlos Castro, Jr. Castro crossed the finish line in 16 minutes, 27 seconds, six seconds in front of runner-up Travis Tate of East Northport.

Also scoring in the Heckscher Park 5K were 13-year-old Shane O'Leary of Levittown, who took second place honors in the 13-15 age group in 19:37, and his brother 11-year-old Chris O'Leary, who was the second place finisher in the 12 and under age group in 23:10.

All three of these fine Levittown athletes are members of the Greater Long Island Running Club.
