Division Avenue Student Makes History
Levittown resident Lenny Gomez, a senior at Division Avenue High School, made history last month when he became a semifinalist in the Intel Science Talent Search. This is the first time in the history of the school district that a student has been selected as a semifinalist in this very difficult competition. Even entering the competition can often be difficult, and Division had seven students enter this year. With the guidance of their science teacher Linda Trusz, the seven students went through the application process and all cheered on their fellow classmate when the news came on Jan. 16.

Kate Murray Steps In As New Town Clerk
Kate Murray, the former assemblywoman for the 19th Assembly District, was officially sworn in as Hempstead Town Clerk on Jan. 4. Murray said it is a position that she finds challenging and one with great opportunity. After just a few weeks in office, she is already looking toward the future and creating innovative ideas to make the office of the town clerk more accessible and convenient for the residents of the town.

MacArthur HS Dominates NYS Wrestling
After winning the Mid-Hudson Tournament in Kingston, NY, which is considered New York State's premier open tournament, many felt MacArthur was New York's strongest team. Others still felt that a few of upstate's stronger programs were New York's best.

Wisdom Lane Boys' Basketball
The Wisdom Lane 8th Grade Boys' Basketball team has just completed their season. The Wildcats played tough the whole season and managed to improve tremendously as the season concluded. They played hard the entire season and had big wins over Salk and Bethpage. The Wildcats were ready for revenge as they took on Bethpage who defeated them by three points earlier in the season. The Wildcats would go on the road to take on a big Bethpage team.
