The winter holidays have passed by rapidly, and now almost all of Levittown's college students have returned to campus for the beginning of the spring semester and the spring semester brings with it preparation for the college baseball season.

Division Avenue High School is proud to announce that this spring season the Dragons have five of its alumni who are playing baseball while pursuing their education, that are receiving baseball scholarship money. These five athletes have combined for a total of $58,000 in scholarship money just for this school year. With this total, and the total of past Division baseball players going back to the 1990 school year. Division baseball players have amassed an incredible total of $826,000 in baseball scholarship money.

Mike Pelcher is pitching for the Delaware Blue Hens. Mike is in his senior season and is teammates with another Levittown product, MacArthur's Rich Maquire.

Another pair of DAHS grads are Ryan Darcy and Eric Fierro, who are reunited as teammates at Manhattan College. The last time these two paired up the Blue Dragons won the Long Island Championship in 1999. Ryan, although only a junior, is slated to be the ace of the Manhattan Jasper staff this spring. Ryan has already signed a contract for this summer to play in the very prestigeous Cape Cod League. Eric Fierro, although only in his freshman year has already won a spot on the team and is expected to split time as the starting catcher.

Two other Division grads have made a big splash on the baseball field, as well as in the classroom. P.J. Antoniato and Steve Juliano, although only freshmen, they have both appeared to have won starting jobs for Briarcliffe Jr. College. P.J. has not only won the job as starting shortstop for the team but he was also selected as freshman for that position. Steve on the other hand looks to be the starting leftfielder this year. While they have both starred on the field for Briarcliffe, they have also shined in the classroom during the fall semester. Both of them have achieved a B+ average for their classroom work in the fall.

The Blue Dragon coaches and staff are very proud of the accomplishments of its alumni who are currently playing ball in college but they are also very proud of two other grads who not only starred in college but are currently continuing their playing careers as they chase the dream of playing major league baseball. Division grade Shawn Fagan, who played for the 1996 Division Ave. undefeated state championship team, and later played at Penn State, has just completed his second season of pro ball where he established himself as a legitimate major league candidate, hitting .301 for the season and leading the entire Florida State League in on base percentage. The Florida State League is considered to be one of the most competitive leagues in all of minor league baseball and after having such a banner season, Shawn is considered to be a prime candidate for the Toronto Blue Jays double "AA" roster this coming year. Another Division grad, Chris Flinn, who has just completed setting new records for the season and career strikeouts at Stoneybrook University, was drafted in the third round last season by Tampa Bay. Chris played in the NY-Penn League last season and had a strong year, compiling an ERA in the low 2's, while averaging more than a strikeout an inning while allowing an extremely low total of walks.

All of Division wishes all their alumni, in college and in pro ball, continued success.
