As the New Year arrived we found the Division Ave. Girls' Varsity Basketball Team finishing a fantastic preseason schedule. The Lady Dragons compiled a record of five wins and one loss before the holiday break.

First up for the Blue Dragons was the Syosset Tournament. The girls played Seaford in the opening round and won 60-27. Ashley Rogala led the Dragons with 16 points and 7 steals. Lauren Williams chipped in with 10 points, 5 steals and 3 assists. Division played Syosset in the championship game and won a thriller 63-61. Danielle Bacon hit two free throws with the score tied at 61 and a half second on the clock to clinch the tournament title. Christina Buckley had 18 points, 5 steals, 5 rebounds and 7 assists and was named MVP of the tournament. Ashley Rogala had 17 points and was named to the all-tournament team.

Next up for the Blue Dragons was a very tough Plainedge team. Christina Buckley had a career high 23 points to lead the Dragons to their third straight victory. Lauren Williams added 6 steals and 11 points, as she seems to be returning to her 1999 all-conference form.

The Lady Dragons wasted no time and were busy with another tournament just a week after winning the Syosset Tournament. This time the Dragons faced Carle Place in the opening round of the Port Washington Invitational Tournament. The girls kept up their winning ways with a 57-43 victory. Angela Alberti led the scoring for Levittown with 12 points. Angela was four for four from three-point range. She also added 11 rebounds and 3 steals. Danielle Bacon had 12 points and added 12 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. The Blue Dragons faced Port Washington in the final and lost a heartbreaker 52-51. This was the first loss of the season for Division.

The last pre-season game for the Lady Dragons was against the Oure School from Denmark. The girls not only played this team, but they housed the girls from Denmark and showed them some warm American hospitality. The Lady Dragons were not as hospitable on the court, beating Oure 62-24. Christina Buckley had a game high 20 points while Ashley Rogala and Danielle Bacon each added 12 points. Nicole Brunnhoelzl chipped in with 4 points, 3 assists, 2 steals and 10 rebounds.

The Lady Dragons have been encouraged with such a triumphant pre-season and have high hopes of carrying their success over into league play.
