MacArthur boys basketball just completed their non -league season with a 4-2 record. The Generals put together two consecutive wins against Herricks 79-41 and cross-town rival Division Avenue 61-60. In the Herricks game, the Generals exploded for 23 first quarter points led by junior Tom Orson's 19 points and 12 rebounds. Seniors Dan Sullivan (13) and Jeff King (15) combining for 28 points with limited time. Junior Chris Sipp who finished with 12 points connected on four of five three pointers to pace the Generals.
In the Generals cross-town rival game against Division. MacArthur's Joe Wilkinson connected on one of two free throws with five seconds left to put MacArthur on top 61-60. Division Rob Spauster's running shot rim out as time expired to seal the Generals win. Senior Jeff King dominated the front court by scoring 26 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Junior Joe Wilkinson had a game-high 11 assists and also added 12 points. Senior Kevin Lyons held Division's top scorer to one field goal in the first half.
The Generals who fell short of a league title last year on a last second shot in the last game of the season look to compete again in conference 3. The Generals have a solid group of unselfish players who work hard together and according to Coach Tuttle have what it takes to compete for a third consecutive playoff appearance. The Generals open their home season on Jan. 15 against Locust Valley at 7:15 p.m.
