Levittown resident Kevin Regan was recently honored by the Town of Hempstead by being presented with the town's 2001 "Make a Difference" Award Medal. Regan was recognized for this volunteer service to the Levittown Community, particularly to its youth. In addition to working within his home community, Regan is the deputy commissioner of the department of engineering for the Town of Hempstead.
The executive director of the Levittown/Island Trees Youth Council for 17 years, Regan has overseen the operations of the council which serves 10,000 children through 15 different youth organizations. In addition, Regan is the immediate past president of the Levittown Kiwanis Club, an organization helping children, and is Lieutenant Governor-elect for the Long Island South Central Division of Kiwanis. Regan has also been distinguished with the Kiwanis Hixon and Kaiser Awards.
Combining his passion for children and sports, Regan was a founder and first general director of the Levittown Soccer Club and is on the board of the Long Island Junior Soccer League, in which he was inducted to their Hall of Fame. In addition, he is a trustee for the Long Island Soccer Park.
"The strides the Levittown Soccer Club has taken through the years is a great source of pride, to not only Kevin, but to the entire community," said Town of Hempstead Supervisor Rich Guardino when presenting the award to Regan.
Regan also serves on the Public Schools Dollars for Scholars, the Levittown Community Council and the Nassau County Youth Board.
In addition, Regan is a member of the Levittown Chamber of Commerce, serving as a board member for many years, and is also the chairman of the grant committee, playing a major role in almost all of their events. Regan has been a recipient of the Chamber's Community Service Award and earlier this year was honored with the 2001 Small Businessperson of the Year Award.
"In many of these service-based organizations, he has started at a beginner level, and stayed throughout the years to work his way up to the top levels," Guardino said. "Tonight, Kevin Regan of Levittown adds the Town of Hempstead Make a Difference Award to his long list of volunteer recognitions."
"You do what you do because you like doing it, not because you're looking for an award. I do it because it's a labor of love," Regan said. "I'm very humbled by it, and it's certainly nice to be recognized by people."
