It was the final game of the year. It was Super Bowl Sunday and you could feel the excitement in the air. Midget Red was on a quest and this was their day to attain it. Everyone was here to support them. Parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, coaches from other teams, friends and neighbors were all here to root Red on. It turned out to be a very exciting and tough game for Red. Red had to face Glen Cove a team that they had beaten earlier in the season 18-0, but this was the playoffs and the Cardinals of Glen Cove were ready.
Glen Cove won the coin but deferred to Levittown and Red would receive the opening kickoff. Red went right to work and methodically drove the ball down the field and scored on a beautiful run by Dominique Alexander. The extra point was no good and Red was off to an early but short lived lead. The Cardinals of Glen Cove came right back and they too scored. The extra point was stopped by Red and the score was now tied at 6. This was going to be a battle and Red was ready. Red's offense would again get the ball and start to march down the field. Several occasions looked like Glen Cove would stop Red but the boys in red came up time after time with key first downs. Alexander would again punch it into the end zone and Red now lea 12-6. Red decided to kick the extra point and Nick Ferrara split the uprights behind great blocking by the offensive line. Red 14 - Glen Cove 6.
Glen Cove was also on a mission and began to drive the ball down the field on Red's defense. On a third and long situation the Cardinals went to the air but Anthony Wrightington stepped in front of the receiver and intercepted the pass. Red was in good field position and wasted little time in scoring. Anthony Villa found his receiver Andrew Mckiel down the middle of the field and Mckiel with two defenders on him made the catch and ran it in for a touchdown. Again, the extra point was stopped and Red led 20-6.
This game was by no means over. Glen Cove would receive the secnd half kickoff and began to march the ball down the field. At about midfield Glen Cove's running back would break three tackles and score for the Cardinals. Glen Cove would now try to kick the extra point but Nick Ferrara burst through and blocked the kick. The score was now 20-12 and there was no sign of the Cardinals giving up.
Red's offense went back to work and again would covert several key firstst downs. Finally Anthony Wrightington would find an opening and burst through for the score. The extra point was no good and Red's lead was now 26-12. Glen Cove would come right back and they too would score to keep the score close. Levittown 26 - Glen Cove 18. Red would turn the ball over on a fumble but on the ensuing drive by Glen Cove Ferrara would strip the ball from the Cardinals' running back and Brian Herold would recover it for Red. Red's running backs did the rest. Behind great blocking Red drove down the field and again Wrightington would run it in for the score. Levittown now led 32-18.
Time was running out on the cardinals as we were now in the fourth quarter. In desperation Glen Cove went to the air. With pressure being put on the quarterback Alexander would now pick off an errant pass. That would seal the victory and Red would now take a knee on the next two plays to end the game.
The celebration now began as parents and friends all came out on the field to see the presentation of the championship trophy.
The boys in Red are: Dominique Alexander, Kevin Brewer, Colin Cassidy, Anthony Chin, Mike Cook, Nick Ferrara, Brendan Gay, Brian Herold, Patrick Higgins, Tom Kowalski, Anthony Laudisio, Kevin Mckenna, Andrew Mckiel, Richard Perez, Kyle Perkins, Don Polite, John Thearle, Nick Thomas, Anthony Wrightton, and Anthony Villa.
