Every December, you will see Levittown firefighters standing in front of our local supermarkets. These men and women volunteer under the leadership of Andy Booth. He organizes the department's annual food drive.

Many people probably get annoyed that there are men asking for donations of food. Well, these generous donations are collected and given to the Wisdom Lane Soup Pantry. Many of our residents have financial difficulties and are able to come to Wisdom Lane to receive a variety of donated canned or dried goods.

Last year our Cub Scout Troop 374 had our annual Food Drive. We collected 500 lbs. of food. We had asked Andy about his food drive and he referred us to Wisdom Lane. We were shown the pantry and were told how it operates. We were able to help our friends, neighbors and residents of Levittown.

The man responsible for this food drive is Andy Booth, who is also a Levittown resident. He has been doing this food drive for the past 10 years. Nobody realizes the time it takes to coordinate this. Andy never lacks volunteers. So when you see these firefighters in front of the store, please donate. You never know who you're helping. This year the date for the food drives are Saturday, Dec. 8 and Sunday, Dec. 9. The times are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

At this time, I would also like to say that Andy Booth is running for the Fire Commissioner of Levittown. We couldn't ask for a better qualified individual. He cares about our community and would be an asset to our fire district. Mr. Booth is a working member of Engine Company 3. In the 25 or so years as such, he has been named Fireman of the Year for special actions and was awarded a medal for saving the life of a fire victim. He is a man completely dedicated to not only the fire service but a family man interested and caring about Levittown as a community. He has a great respect for the elderly. For a number of years, he has been overseeing a Thanksgiving dinner for the senior citizens - giving his all. He is in charge of "Adopt-A-Family" at Christmas. These things are not all of his assets - he has a finger on the pulse of our town and goes out of his way to be of help to people in need.

His experience as a fireman - from "rookie" through captain has given him knowledge of the district and is fully aware of what to work for to make a better fire department.

A vote for Andrew on Dec. 11 will be a vote for a man who will to the best of his ability do the job!
