MacArthur football under the lights, the MacArthur football field looked exceptionally green and manicured and the fans had a little bit of extra excitement with the moon almost full. The Generals came through with a come from behind victory. The scoring included a 56-yard field goal. Many thanks to John Masone who put the whole evening together. Special thanks to the Town of Hempstead and Nassau County for help with the lights.

The fall season at MacArthur HS is off and running with the Generals off to a very good start in both boys Varsity soccer and football. The boys soccer team is undefeated up to this point in the season with a 6-0-1 record. The team just started the second half of the season and continued with their winning ways by defeating a very tough and stingy Carey HS team. The Generals are gearing up for a difficult and challenging second half of the season as they know that all of their upcoming opponents will be looking to deal the Generals their first loss of the season. Hopefully, they will stay focused and Coach Bill Lehmann will keep reminding them that they have to take every game seriously if they want to have any chance of qualifying for the playoffs.

The football team is off to a 2-1 start this season. The Generals are led by a strong, hard hitting, punishing defense and now can boast of a confident and consistent passing attack which is starting to live up to the expectations that Head Coach Bob Fehrenbach was hoping for. The Generals lost their opening game to third seed Lawrence by a score of 7-0. In week two, the Generals bounced back by defeating New Hyde Park 23-6. This game was highlighted by two Jason Cappadoro to Jeff King touchdowns and a 54-yard field goal by Mark Zagkowski. Week three brought number two seed Hewlett to MacArthur for the first ever home game under the lights. On a picture perfect night for football, the Generals came back from a 14-0 deficit to score 26 unanswered points and hand Hewlett their first loss of the season. The Generals will be severely tested the rest of the season with games against the number one seed and always tough Garden City.

Mixed in are games against Mepham and unbeaten Calhoun who are always formidable foes along with Floral Park which is another playoff bound team. MacArthur has not been to the playoffs at Hofstra in six years. That should be motivation enough to keep this team focused as they make their run for the playoffs.

The girls soccer and volleyball have new coaches at the helm and are faced with a rebuilding year as both teams were seriously depleted by graduating seniors last year. The players and coaches remain optimistic for the future as their rosters are filled with many sophomores and juniors. Both teams are playing competitive ball with no sign of giving in to anyone.

Cross country and girls tennis remain competitive as they usually do. They remain strong in all their contests and continue to show improvement and growth with each match and meet.
