Congratulations and best wishes to two terrific and very talented young ladies who this past season were both selected as All State softball players in Nassau County.

Jackie Burd from MacArthur High School and Chrissy DeMott from Island Trees High School were chosen from thousands of Long Island's best players. Burd had the honor of being chosen first team All State where only the top 10 girls were selected. Her commitment to be the best she can be is endless. Burd was a four sport varsity athlete at MacArthur, playing volleyball, basketball, bowling and softball, being named All County in all four sports, all while maintaining an average of 98.7. Combined with her athletic skills and SAT scores of 1330, Burd landed a softball scholarship at Pace University in Westchester. A truly committed young lady, Burd had never missed a day of school since the first grade. A true testament to hard work paying off.

Chrissy DeMott was chosen fifth team All State. Quite an honor for a junior to be placed among the best. DeMott pitched her team to the Class B County championship this past season at Island Trees being named All County and MVP of the Nassau County Playoffs. DeMott hopes to follow in the footsteps of her very special friend Burd, by maintaing a 95 average and also scoring over 1300 on her SATs. She is looking at Division One schools such as Marist, Quinnipiac, Fairfield, Sacred Heart and Central Connecticut, to name a few.

Although the girls attended different high schools, they have always remained friends and have had the same desire and commitment to be the best friends they can be, not only on the softball diamond but off the field as well. Both ladies work in the off season as volunteers with younger softball players who want to be just like them when they grow up. If these youngsters have the same heart and desire that Burd and DeMott have had they too can achieve the same goal.

These accomplishments can't go without credit to both girls' parents, who have sacrificed so much through the years but most of all have always been there for their daughters through the good times and bad, a testament to the true love they all share.

Editor's Note: This article was submitted by Island Trees High School Varsity Softball Coach Laurie J. Logan, who has coached both girls on the summer PAL team, who felt they deserved special recognition for their amazing accomplishments during their high school season. Congratulations to both girls on all their outstanding achievements. Logo
