This past spring two division athletes were selected to their respective sports all state team for their outstanding play throughout the 2001 spring athletic season.
Beth Bolognese was selected to the all state softball team for her outstanding hitting, and great defensive play as third baseman. Beth is a four-year starter for the Lady Dragons where she made all league as freshman, all conference as a sophomore, and all county as both a junior and senior.
Beth is presently a freshman at Briarcliffe Jr. College where she is attending on a full softball scholarship. The Briarcliffe softball program is nationally renown and has made it to the Jr. College Softball World Series for the last three seasons.
P.J. Antoniato was selected to the all state team this year for his unbelievable play as a shortstop, and batter this year. Wherever the Dragons played this year fans and coaches from the other schools marveled at P.J.'s unbelievable defensive play. But P.J. did a lot more than play the field as he batted .444 in a league that was considered by many to be the best league in Nassau County this year. This league was dominated by great pitchers on every single team, but P.J. still enjoyed tremendous success at the plate. This is P.J.'s second year to make the all state team as he was selected as an all state pitcher last year as a junior. Like Beth, P.J. is also attending Briarcliffe on a full baseball scholarship. Coach Bryant of Briarcliffe has already raved at P.J.'s ability, and more importantly how hard he practices every day. Briarcliffe baseball, like its softball team, is also nationally known and has made it to the Jr. College World Series Two of the last three seasons. P.J. had many scholarship offers to all of the local four year colleges, and to many other schools out of state but he chose Briarcliffe because of their baseball reputation.
Those at division wish Beth and P.J. continued success on the athletic field as well as in the classroom, so they can go onto a four year school and further their education.
