County Legislator Norma Gonsalves recently attended a tournament game at Speno Park hosted by the East Meadow Soccer Club and sponsored by American Ref-Fuel. The game between East Meadow and Bayport ended in a tie. The Sharpshooters, East Meadow's all-girl team are the 2001 runner-up New York State Champs.

The three-day weekend tournament involved 380 teams with 1,000 games played. More than 5,000 players participated in the tournament and over 20,000 spectators attended each day.

Gonsalves said, "I was delighted to be one of those spectators who witnessed the immense skill and teamwork of the players. It is always gratifying to see how coaches, trainers, referees and family work together to provide positive activities for our youth. Their tireless efforts on behalf of our young people are commendable."
