From July 6 to 9, members of the St. Bernard's Cheerleading Competition Team traveled to Southern Connecticut State University to participate in their first UCA sponsored Elite Summer Camp. These four days consisted of intense training in all aspects of cheerleading. In addition to working on improving their skills in areas such as stunting, cheer, dance and tumbling, the girls were given lessons on teamwork, trust, safety and understanding the value of their coaches and captains.
The team came away with valuable information and skills. At the end of the four days, UCA staff performed an evaluation of each team. St. Bernard's earned superior ribbons in the areas of stunt, elite stunt, dance, cheer and overall camp evaluation; outstanding and excellent ribbons in the areas of cheer evaluation and extreme routine, and the title of camp champs in the cheer division. The girls have been working hard on improving their skills for their upcoming season. In addition to camp, many of the girls are attending a cheerleading tumbling class at Elite Gymnastics in Amityville in the hopes of improving their tumbling scores in this season's LICCA Competitions. In addition to entering the LICCA competitions this season, the girls will cheer for the eighth grade boys travel basketball teams. Congratulations to the girls on all their hard work and camp champ title.
