Levittown West Little League's 9- and 10-year-old baseball team took first place in the Glen Cove Mayor's Tournament. Their record was 9-0. During July and August, the Dragons played against teams from Glen Cove, Briarwood, Bethpage, Plainedge, Plainview, Long Beach, Manhasset, Jericho and Port Washington. They defeated Plainedge in the championship game by a score of 4-1 on Aug. 20.
Pitchers Paul Bischoff, Kevin Licul and Kerry Connolly dominated each game they pitched by throwing with precision and strength. Infielders Steven Lander, Erik Pedersen, Matt Schneider and Kerry Connolly and outfielders Andrew Licul, Danny Cromer, Kyle Lutz, Chris Baldi, Kevin Adair and Joey Messina provided the necessary defense needed to hold off their opponents including the execution of several double plays. The Dragons scored an outstanding 136 runs in the tournament and allowed just 26 runs to be scored against them. Nine year old Steven Lander received the team MVP award for his consistent hitting and fielding.
Managed by Bob Bischoff and coached by Gino Licul and Kerry Connolly, this was a strong team which represented Levittown with pride and dignity.
